Dis-aggre-what?

Disaggregation is a way to determine how much energy each appliance behind an energy meter is using. Via this website we would like inform you about our open source disaggregation project. We try to make free software that can accurately determine how much of your energy bill is consists of for example the water cooker or the vacuum cleaner.

How much does a cup of tea cost?

Do you have an idea how much a water boiler, oven or fridge is using compared to the dishwasher? We know after we’ve disaggregated our smart meter readings!

How much is your coffee machine using?

The image below shows the usage of a coffee machine (left) and a water cooker (right) during about 2 hours. The coffee machine uses just as much energy making the coffee as it is using keeping it warm. In total the energy use is just a little less then the water cooker. Where you able to figure out which device was using more by looking at the graph?

Help to test!

We have test sets which you can use at home in the Netherlands. We can sent them to you for free as long as you return them after the testing period. You can keep the development kit (raspberry PI with wifi) if you are actively supporting the project with code updates.

Are you living somewhere else? Do you want to help, please contact disaggregation@makethemetersmarter.com to activate this project in your country!
